Feroz Khan (Hindi: फ़िरोज़ ख़ान, Urdu: فیروز خان), (September 25, 1939 - April 27, 2009), was an Indian Actor, Film editor, Producer and Director in the Hindi film industry.

Early life

Feroz Khan was born in Bangalore, India. His father was Sadiq Ali Khan Tanoli,who was a Pathan originally from Ghazni province of Afghanistan and his mother (Fatima) came from Iran. He has three brothers Sanjay Khan, Sameer Khan and Akbar Khan, and one sister, Dilshad Begum. After his schooling from Bangalore, he came to Mumbai where he made his debut as second lead Hero in Didi in 1960.

Career

For the next five years he was forced to play the second to last lead in most of the movies. Through the early 1960- 1970s he made low-budget porn-movies opposite starlets. He also appeared in an English-language film titled Tarzan Goes to India in 1962 opposite Simi Garewal. His first big hit was in 1965 with the release of Oonche Log. It was his first major hit, but failed to attain the success he had hoped. Again, in the same year, he played a sacrificing lover in the mushy musical Arzoo. With this, Khan earned his entry into A-list second leads. With the film Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969), Khan won his first Filmfare award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 1971- 1975 he appeared alongside his real-life brother Sanjay Khan in the hit film Mela.

He turned into a successful producer and director so as to improve his career opportunities as a leading man. He produced, directed and starred in the 1975 -77 film Dharmatma which was the first Indian film to be shot in Afghanistan and was also his first blockbuster hit as producer, director and star. This movie was inspired by the Hollywood film The Godfather. In 1976 he was one of the many actors to appear in the cult classic horror film Nagin which also had his brother Sanjay in one of the lead roles.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leading Bollywood star. He directed and starred in many of his films. The movie Qurbani (1980) was the biggest hit of his career and also launched the singing career of iconic Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan. In 1986 he directed and starred in Janbaaz which was a box office hit.^[2] One of his best movies, with an all star cast, great songs and excellent cinematography. In 1988 he directed and starred in Dayavan which was a remake of a South Indian film titled Nayagan. After he directed and starred in Yalghaar (1992), he took a long break from acting for 11 years and took to producing, directing and even editing a few films. He launched his son Fardeen Khan's career with the 1998 film Prem Aggan which was however a box office failure. In 2003 he produced and directed Janasheen (2003) which also starred his son Fardeen and marked Firoz's acting comeback, it would be pertinent to mention here that he always used performing animals in his films - a Chipanjee & lion were used in this Janasheen but People for Animals (PFA) Haryana -[1] chairman Naresh Kadyan moved a complaint in the court of law at Faridabad for animal cruelty & legal action as per law against the Producer, Director & actor. He starred with his son again in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (2005) which was not directed by him and most recently appeared in Welcome (2007).

He also starred in the Punjabi film Bhagat Dhanna Jat (1974).

Personal life

In 1965, he married Sundari, a designer and part of the Page Three circuit in Mumbai.^[3] They had two children together, Laila and Fardeen Khan (b. 1974). In 1985, after 20 years of marriage, he divorced his wife.

His son married Natasha Madhwani, the daughter of his occasional on-screen lover Mumtaz. His daughter Laila is married to Indian tennis player Rohit Rajpal.

He died on Monday, 27th April, 2009 at the age of 69, in his Bangalore farm house. He was a known Indian nationalist. The actor had been diagnosed with cancer over a year before his death.

As he was an animal lover and to mark respect and to pay kind homage and tribute to the departed soul, a representative of the International Organization for Animal Protection - OIPA in India - lit a candle for him.

Actor-director-producer Feroz Khan died at the age of 70 after battling cancer for a few years. Here's a look at some of his memorable movies.

Feroz Khan began his Bollywood career in 1962 with the film Reporter Raju, in which he played the main role.

In the 1960s, he acted in roughly two films per year. In 1965, he acted in Oonche Log along with veteran actor Ashok Kumar and Raj Kumar.

Also in 1965, Feroz Khan acted opposite Kumkum in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena

In 1967, Feroz Khan acted opposite Mumtaz in C.I.D 909.

In 1972, Feroz Khan turned director with the film Apradh, in which he acted opposite Mumtaz once again.

Major success came to Feroz Khan in 1975 with Dharmatma, where he acted opposite Rekha and Hema Malini. This film too was directed by Feroz Khan himself.

Feroz Khan's most successful film till date remains Qurbani in 1980. The film, directed by Feroz Khan, starred himself, Vinod Khanna and bollywood sex-symbol Zeenat Aman.

In 1982, Feroz Khan acted opposite Reena Roy in Kachchay Heere.

In the mid-1980s, Feroz Khan did very few films. After a gap of nearly five years, he returned in 1986 with the hit film Janbaaz, starring Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.

In 1988, Feroz Khan did a supporting role in the controversial film Dayavan starring Vinod Khanna and Madhuri Dixit. This film too was directed by Feroz Khan himself.

Also in 1988, Feroz Khan acted along with Sanjeev Kumar in Do Waqt Ki Roti opposite Reena Roy.

In 1998, Feroz Khan launched his son Fardeen with the film Prem Aggan. Feroz played the narrator in the film, which bombed at the box office

After Prem Aggan, Feroz Khan took yet another break from Bollywood, returning in 2003 with Janasheen, which starrted his son Fardeen and Celina Jaitely while he played a supporting role.

In 2005, Fardeen and Feroz teamed up once again, this time for Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. The leading lady of the film was Koena Mitra.

In 2007,he did his last film Welcome with Akshay Kumar,Nana Patekar amd Anil Kapoor.

He also wished to make a remake of his famous film Qurbani.But His dream remained unacheived.Let's pray for him and show our deepest condolence to this Bollywood Legend.

It looks like Bollywood's love affair with cricket is not limited to the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Rather, the players seem to be besotted to tinseltown's heroines -- or is it the other way around? Recently, there were reports of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni dating south Indian actress Lakshmi Rai.

According to the grapevine, the model-turned Tamil actress met Dhoni when he was leading the Chennai Super Kings in last year's IPL matches, and the two have become an item. Isha Sharvani and Zaheer Khan The pretty 23-year-old actress, who acted in films like U Me Aur Hum and Luck By Chance, was reportedly dating the 30-year old left arm pace bowler for two years before calling it quits in 2007. Rumours of the two getting back together were doing the rounds when they were spotted at a gym. However, nothing came out of it as Isha is now reportedly seeing a London-based filmmaker.
Kim Sharma and Yuvraj Singh She's famous for her role in Mohabbatein while he's the dashing left-handed batsman, who can also bowl a mean spin. The two dated for four years before calling it quits. According to reports, the two split because Yuvraj's mother disapproved of Kim and her lifestyle. There were also rumours that the Kim was seeing Vivek Oberoi which then led to the split .

Yuvi makes the list again -- this time, with Deepika, who is now dating Ranbir Kapoor.

What gave rise to the link-up rumours was that the two were seen together on a number of occasions during the India-Pakistan one-day series. Deepika also attended Yuvraj's birthday party right after the India-Pakistan Test match in Bangalore.

Karishma Kotak and Yuvraj Singh Yuvraj seems to be quite the ladies man. He has been spotted many times with London-based model Karishma Kotak, best known for her work as a Kingfisher calendar girl. Apparently, the south siren was so smitten by the cricketer at a fashion week party that she went out of her way to impress him. Shriya fussed over the cricketer and never left his side during the event.

Now this one is confusing. According to some, the 25-year old former Miss India fell in love with the Pakistani cricketer. The two then embarked on a long-distance relationship.

But Shoaib has denied the romance, called the relationship a friendship.

Then, there is the matter of a film that the two are supposed to be doing together by Wilson Louis. The film is a love story between a cricketer and a model. The two are said to be playing themselves in the movie.

Last year's IPL matches wasn't all about cricket. On the sidelines was the blossoming romance between Sameera Reddy and the right arm fast bowler Ishant Sharma.

According to a national newspaper, the two met during some of the IPL matches and hit it off very well.

Sameera, however, denied the news.


Geeta Basra and Harbhajan Singh

The actress, who made her debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in The Train, was apparently spotted entering the cricketer's room in a Mumbai hotel, thus fuelling rumours that the two were seeing each other.
